The School of Accounting of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) was established in December 1995 as the first accounting school under a higher education institution in China, and is now one of the largest teaching units of DUFE. The Accounting discipline of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics obtained the right to grant a master's degree in 1981, and obtained the right to grant a doctoral degree in 1993, and is the first accounting doctoral unit in the Northeast region. The Accounting discipline was named a key discipline of the Ministry of Finance in 1997, a national key discipline by the Ministry of Education in 2002, and again identified as a national key discipline in 2007. In 2019, the Accounting program and Financial Management program of SOA were selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate program construction sites. In 2021, the Valuation program of SOA was selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site.
The School of Accounting has four teaching organizations, including the Department of Accounting, the Department of Financial Management, the Department of Auditing and the Department of Valuation. It has set up China Internal Control Research Center (provincial humanities and social sciences key research base), Accounting Informatization Key Laboratory (provincial key laboratory), China-Germany Management Control Research Center, Tax Accounting Research Center, Accounting Standards Research Center, Asset Appraisal Research Center, Management Accounting Research Center, Financial Management Research Center and other scientific research institutions, with first-class infrastructures, advanced experimental configurations and abundant data resources. The School has a complete multi-level talent training system for undergraduate, master and doctoral students. There are currently 2,484 students in the School. Among them, 1,354 are undergraduates and 1,130 are postgraduates.
The School has a strong faculty with a total of 72 full-time faculty as of September 2023, including 25 professors, 36 associate professors, and 14 doctoral supervisors. There are 1 person from the national "Ten Thousand Talents Program" leading figure in philosophy and social sciences, 1 national-level candidate in the "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project", 1 person who is a national-level cultural luminary and the talent of "a batch of technical transformation and upgrading projects; a batch of construction projects started; a batch of completed and put into production projects; a batch of docking and introduction projects" and 1 person who won the Ministry of Education's Young Scholar honorary title. There are 2 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council and 1 person who won national-level "famous teaching teacher". There are 2 "New Century Outstanding Talents" of the Ministry of Education, 2 persons from the Ministry of Finance's National Accounting Master Training Project, 1 person from the Ministry of Finance's National Leading Accounting Talents Special Support Program, and 10 persons who are the Ministry of Finance's National Leading Accounting Talents. There are 9 "famous undergraduate teachers" in Liaoning Province, 2 "Liaoning Distinguished Professors", 3 candidates for the "100 Million Talents Project" in Liaoning Province, 4 candidates for the Innovative Talents Support Program in Liaoning Province, and 1 winner of the "Liaoning May 1st Labor Medal". The Accounting faculty team won the title of Huang Danian Faculty Team in Liaoning Province.
The School has a strong scientific research atmosphere, and has established and perfected a three-dimensional scientific research activity system of "five-in-one" (academic conferences, accounting and finance forums, academic training camps, dissertation workshops, and experience-sharing and symposiums on subject declaration), the regularization of scientific research activities (held once every 1-2 weeks), high quality (famous universities and scholars) and full participation (doctoral students, master students, undergraduates and faculty) of scientific research activities have been realized. Under the strong research atmosphere and with highly competitive faculty, the School has made remarkable achievements in scientific research. In recent years, the School has published in The Accounting Review, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Contemporary Accounting Research, Humanities and Social Sciences Communications (Nature sub-journal), as well as Economic Research Journal, Journal of Management World, Journal of Management Sciences in China, China Economic Quarterly, The Journal of World Economy, Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Research, Nankai Business Review, China Industrial Economics, etc., and has published more than 100 papers in domestic and international top academic journals. The School has been granted over 30 national-level research projects, including key projects of the National Social Science Fund and general projects of the National Natural Science Fund. Additionally, it has received dozens of scientific research awards at provincial and ministerial levels or above, including the Provincial Government's Philosophy and Social Science Academic Achievement Award.
In the process of talent cultivation, the School pays attention to the reform of professional education and teaching and vigorously implements modernized teaching methods, with remarkable achievements. The Accounting program is one of the first nationally recognized distinctive programs and a key-supported program in Liaoning Province. The Financial Management program is a comprehensive reform pilot program in Liaoning Province, and its teaching team is among the first nationally recognized outstanding teaching teams. The School has won 5 national outstanding teaching achievement awards, 24 provincial outstanding teaching achievement awards, and has been awarded 8 national quality courses, 7 national quality resource sharing courses, 2 national bilingual model courses, 6 national first-class undergraduate courses and 27 provincial first-class courses. Intermediate Financial Accounting was awarded the first National Excellent Teaching Material Award.
After years of efforts, the School of Accounting has basically realized the construction goal of "first-class in China and influential in the world". In the "2023 Ranking of Chinese Universities" released by Shanghai Ranking, a professional organization for higher education evaluation, the Accounting, Financial Management and Valuation programs of SOA were rated A+ and entered the top 2% of the national rankings. Among them, the Accounting and Financial Management programs were ranked 10th in China, and the Valuation program was ranked first in China. The Auditing program was rated A and ranked fifth in China. The School has delivered a large number of high-end talents in accounting and related professions to governmental organizations at all levels, various universities, large group companies or listed companies, large accounting firms and multinational corporations, and has a high social reputation and wide social influence.
