At 15:40 on November 9, 2023, the “Accounting for the Present, Calculating for the Future” Dean & Secretary Tea Party Series (Issue 2) of School of Accounting was held in the Academic Seminar Room 233 of Quan Xue Building as scheduled. This activity invited Professor Yanli Chen, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of School of Accounting, Professor Yan Chen of Department of Accounting, Ms. Xin Xu, Director of the Student Affairs Office and Secretary of the Youth League Committee of School of Accounting, and Ms. Yilin Sun, Counselor of School of Accounting.
The success of the first Dean & Secretary Tea Party aroused a strong response among the students, so they signed up enthusiastically. On the basis of fully understanding the demands of students and taking into account all the grades and levels, the School selected nine students to participate in this tea party.
At the beginning of the activity, Yilin Sun introduced the participating teachers, welcomed all students for their active participation, and explained that there was no specific theme for this tea party. Students introduced themselves in turn and interacted with the teachers to bring them closer together in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
First of all, students asked questions about joining the Youth League and the Party and the work of student leaders, which were detailed answered by Xin Xu and Yilin Sun respectively. Xin Xu said that applying for joining the Youth League and the Party is an organization development process, which is completely different from the awarding and appraising activities. She interpreted the complete process of joining the Youth League and the Party for the students and gave constructive suggestions on issues related to the work of student leaders. Secretary Chen affirmed the work of all Student Party Branches and Youth League Branches of the School, and encouraged the students to make positive progress.
Next, the undergraduate students asked how to carry out paper writing, and the senior students who have been promoted and exempted gave their own suggestions: scientific research comes from love, find your own interest after understanding the research direction of the subdivision of the field of accounting, then contact the supervisor, select the topic, and conduct the writing, and at the same time, look for the courses of the application of the measurement software and the empirical research model on the Internet, to develop the ability of studying and thinking independently. Participating graduate students also shared their personal thoughts and experiences from different perspectives. Secretary Chen then pointed out that on the basis of ensuring the completion of undergraduate studies, students who are interested in academic research can actively participate in the "Undergraduate Academic Talent Incubation Program", try to apply for projects, pay attention to the vivid cases in teaching and capital market, make good use of the library resources, and conduct academic research explorations according to their own plans. Professor Yan Chen emphasized the importance of coordinating academic and scientific research, reminded the students to pay attention to the distribution of energy, encouraged them to actively make attempts, and at the same time pointed out some realistic problems in the process of publishing papers, introduced the real cases of her own students. She said that if students want to do good research, they have to be genuinely interested and think diligently, and publication of papers comes naturally on the basis of in-depth research. She also welcomed the undergraduates to join her team to experience the process of scientific research step by step. Ms. Xin Xu patiently interpreted the policy related to graduate student exemption issues raised by undergraduate students.
Graduate students then asked questions about time allocation during their master's degree and how to choose between certification, internships, and research. Professor Yan Chen said that they should make the decision according to their personal future plan, clarify whether they are interested in scientific research, whether they can endure loneliness and how to look at the time cost and opportunity cost in the process of doctoral study, etc. Because of limited energy and precious time, they should make the decision as soon as possible and implement it immediately without any hesitation after clarifying the direction. Secretary Chen shared her exchanges with outstanding alumni, encouraging students to dare to try and have the courage and persistence to face difficulties and challenges, telling them that there is more than one path to success, and the one that is right is the most important, and advising them to pursue their lives with the love and pursuit of their careers, and the multi-dimensional expansion of their own values. The two teachers also pointed out the importance of professional foundation and comprehensive ability, and the fact that only by being stronger and better can we face unlimited possibilities.
Professor Yan Chen also emphasized the importance of becoming a "compound talent", teaching students not only to understand professional knowledge but also understand the business and technology. In the face of the constantly changing development situation, it is necessary to keep up with the pace of the times to learn new knowledge and new technologies, to become a compound talent, to improve the comprehensive competitiveness, and to keep pace with the times and continue to move forward.
The Tea Party was held in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, and the participating teachers and students expressed their opinions freely. The teachers also said that they would always be willing to communicate with the students and welcome the students to actively contact them. Secretary Chen reminded everyone to pay attention to physical and mental health. She said that each student is not striving on their own, but with the support of their families, teachers, administration and academic staff as well as seniors. As long as there is the needs from students, the School will always be a solid support. She hopes that all the students will have the confidence to keep moving forward.
The “Accounting for the Present, Calculating for the Future” Dean & Secretary Tea Party Series provide a high-quality communication platform for the leaders, teachers and students of the School. The third Tea Party will be held in the near future, and the School will keep understanding the demands and confusions of the students in advance, and inviting guests for them. Students from School of Accounting can come to the activity on their own according to the time and venue announced afterwards, so that they can benefit and develop from the close communication with the teachers.
