On November 17, 2023, at 15:40, the “Accounting for the Present, Calculating for the Future” Dean & Secretary Tea Party (Issue 3) was held in the Academic Seminar Room 233, Quan Xue Building. Professor Xiaodong Zhang, Vice Dean of School of Accounting, Professor Shuqin Song, Director of Department of Financial Management, Rui Liu, Director of the Training Office of the School, Xi Yang and Xiaoyi Gao, Degree Secretaries of the School, and Aoran Liu, Counselor, attended the activity. A total of 8 students participated in the tea party with the theme of "Adaptation and Cultivation of Graduate Students".
The activity was presided over by Ms. Aoran Liu. First of all, undergraduate students asked the question about how to develop a deeper study in the direction of their own interests at the undergraduate level. Regarding this issue, President Zhang gave three suggestions humorously: The first is to be curious, to do the work yourselves, to get your hands on practicing, and then you should return to reality to think about whether the research issues have any echoes, and correct your thinking in this cycle. The second is to learn more about professional knowledge. Dean Zhang recommended some professional media and journals to the students, saying that these resources can help undergraduate students to gain perceptual understanding. The third is to read extensively, to learn computer technologies, and to improve your ability in problem solving.
Graduate students asked questions about employment. Dean Zhang first introduced the employment situation of the previous graduates and advised them to increase their confidence instead of being anxious. Next, he reminded the students that they should be clear about their career direction, and then collect first-hand information from various sources actively. Self-help is better than help from others. It is important to use your own initiatives to narrow the information gap.
Ms. Xiaoyi Gao affirmed the student's career planning and introduced the corporate resources of School of Accounting, and also expressed that the School would share more about the recruitment demands to meet the diversified employment needs of students.
Professor Shuqin Song introduced the difference between examination for public institutions and national civil servants, said that there is no conflict between examination and internship in postgraduate study, and shared the experience of her outstanding students. Professor Song also emphasized that graduate students should still focus on their academic studies and improve their professional abilities.
Director Rui Liu urged the students not to give up their professional foundation, and to take the advice of various aspects on their employment planning, so that they can weigh the pros and cons.
Then, some students asked questions about the PhD Training Plan. Director Rui Liu introduced to the students the four ways to get promoted to doctoral degree and the employment situation of doctoral students in detail, and gave her advice based on the actual situation. Ms. Xi Yang introduced the PhD Training Plan of the School of Accounting, saying that the training process should emphasize both scientific researches and academic studies, and also focus on the cultivation of individualization of the students. The School encourages doctoral students to attend conferences for further learning.
In addition, students also asked questions about the postgraduate entrance examination of transdisciplinary students. Ms. Xiaoyi Gao firstly pointed out that passing the transdisciplinary examination means that they have two stepping stones to increase their competitiveness. However, they should not give up their professional knowledge in the process of learning, while increasing their competitiveness in a reasonable way.
Finally, Dean Zhang suggested to the students who participated in this tea party that ability is more important than identity, and that they can only gain more if they work hard and pay more. The tea party ended with friendly exchanges between teachers and students.
The theme of the third Dean & Secretary Tea Party was "Adaptation and Cultivation of Graduate Students", which was intended to provide students with thoughts and suggestions on the direction of further education. Teachers of the School answered questions related to the connection and adaptation between postgraduate and graduate students, and the cultivation of master's and doctor's degrees. This tea party is not only a communication platform for graduate students and undergraduate students who are interested in graduate studies, but also a concrete manifestation of the Party Committee of the School focusing on students, approaching students, serving students and caring for students.
